Nestlé today reinforced its commitment to Zero Waste to Landfill by 2020, at the Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce Business Insights Session - Let’s Talk Trash! This is a further step as Nestlé continues to collaborate with partners in the Caribbean and drive environmental sustainability as a fundamental business principle for all.

Nestlé Head of Corporate Communications for the Anglo Dutch Caribbean, Denise d’Abadie said, “At Nestlé, we have set a global mandate for Zero Waste to Landfill by 2020 and this is just one area in which we are fulfilling our Purpose to enhance the quality of life and contribute to a healthier future. While we are primarily speaking about Waste and Recyclables in this Forum, I would like to highlight that one of our other commitments is Caring for Water. At our site, we have an Effluent Water Treatment Plant, which ensures that the water we release into the river closest to our compound is clean and free of contaminants.”

Change starts with us. Internally, Nestlé also drives behavior changes with employees, getting buy in through campaigns that highlight the environmental impacts of waste and subsequent actions that can decrease this. The company adopted a BYOB – Bring your own Bowl/Bottle program at the canteen, which led to the removal of all single use plastic containers and cutlery, allowing the canteen to be plastic free.
