FAQs
  • Nestlé Needs Youth is a global initiative by Nestlé aiming to strengthen and develop the employability of young people all over the world. Nestlé Needs Youth has a presence in four Caribbean countries; Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados and Jamaica. The global goal is to support 10 million young people by 2030 through internships, training and mentorship activities. To learn about our achievements, visit Nestlé Needs YOUth.

  • The objective of these short-term opportunities are to improve employability. They are intended to break the ‘no experience’ cycle for young people as they gain practical experience from the internships, traineeships and apprenticeships. They may not result in long-term employment at Nestlé or at one of the Alliance for YOUth partners, but we know that it increases your chances of getting a job at another company. Already we have examples of past trainees and interns who have found employment at other companies because of their experience.

  • In some cases, the employability opportunities are paid by Nestlé or by a partnering organization in our Alliance for YOUth. Except for a few cases where the opportunity does not allow for payment. For example, in some circumstances the internship is similar to courses offered by an educational institution, and as such students take the practical experience for credits.

  • Statistics by the International Labour Organization (ILO) show that 1 in very 5 young people are unemployed or in a job that keeps them in poverty. As a result of this we felt like we had a responsibility to improve employability amongst young people. Young people are sometimes undermined in their quest for employment, by offering them opportunities like training, internships and apprenticeships we increase their chances of getting a job, which helps to address the statistics.

  • We have decided to define youth up until the age 29 because unemployed people between the ages of 25 and 29 face similar issues.

  • No, while this program focuses on people below 30 we hire people of all ages, depending on the specific skills and competences needed.

  • The program offers employability opportunities from across various functional units at Nestlé or from our partners in our Alliance for YOUth.

  • No. This initiative aims to create conditions which will help young people to find a job, whether in our company or anywhere else, and it does not affect the number of our employees. Part of these new hires will cover the openings that result from the company’s normal turnover (e.g. retirements, transfers etc).
